Ag Canada Proposal Portfolio

Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation

I have been working with SCIC over the last two years to produce a library of images that showcase farm activities throughout the growing season, as well SCIC employees interacting with farmers as they would in their day to day jobs. The farm activity shoots have been largely self directed, with SCIC giving me quarterly shot lists and me sourcing the farmers from network and planning the shoot timeline, logistics, etc. Typically, the shoots have been documentary style, with me tagging along throughout the day, whether it be harvest, crop checking, seeding. I tend to try to arrange the shoot to be later afternoon so that it spans, daylight, dusk and evening, which offers a variety of aesthetic looks over a short time period. Organizing the shoots is typically quite fluid, as, especially during busy season, farmer’s schedules change suddenly. I try and have ongoing communication with all potential farms I am shooting with in an upcoming week so we can plan accordingly.

Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission

I have been working alongside Sask Wheat over the last few years to capture a variety of visual assets that support their goal of championing the farmers, scientists and industry professionals. The highlighted images are from a project where myself and Honey Cut productions shot photo & video at the AAFC Morden Research and Development Farm to showcase the work being done by scientists on crop disease research. Working with Honey Cut, we developed a shot list & mood board that was approved by the client. Given my agriculture background, I helped with direction of the video to ensure all agriculture vernacular was translated and captured properly, as well as shooting all images on set. Lighting on this project was a challenge at times, given the mix of harsh fluorescent lighting and otherwise darker lab environments. To create a more moody & cinematic look, we dimmed the lights and relied heavily on off camera lighting for both photo & video. Working in tandem with the video team, we were largely both able to capture our needed shots with the same lighting set-up, which allowed us time for various set-ups across the lab with minimal repeats.
